RUSH Regatta

2022 Team RUSH Regatta

This past summer, Team RUSH was incredibly excited to be able to host our annual RUSH regatta once again! Each team of students within Team RUSH was tasked with creating a cardboard and duct tape boat that they would have to then race on Deer Lake. This was a great entrepreneurial and engineering challenge for all our students, as they had to get sponsors and prepare presentations explaining their finances and engineering processes. The RUSH Regatta took place on July 9th, 2022.

If you are interested in sponsoring us for this year (or upcoming years) please contact Kyle Hughes at [email protected]

About the RUSH Regatta

The RUSH Regatta is a cardboard and duct tape boat race across Deer Lake in Clarkston, Michigan. Team RUSH 27 is split into eight or nine smaller teams, and each is responsible for building a boat based on the rules released each year. Each team also cold calls local companies to fundraise sponsorships. The RUSH Regatta is both an engineering and entrepreneurial challenge for students!

Since we are a large team, there is a large cost for us to travel for our five competitions each year. As our primary funding source, we raise most of our travel money from the Regatta.

Each year, we have a goal in mind to shoot for, and any money we raise above our goal goes towards large projects that benefit the entire team.

Due to the amount of money we were able to raise in 2017, we were able to buy a playing field to practice on during the season. Before buying the field, we practiced inside a cold barn five miles away from the school. With the new field, we have been able to practice every day after school and during our lunches, which helped us practice for the Detroit World Championships. We were able to invite nine other teams from around the state of Michigan that played with us or used our field for programming practice.

For the 2018 Regatta, we wanted to raise enough money to buy new uniforms for the students on the team. We use these during our traveling season where we go across the Midwest for different competitions.

Our 2019 goal was to build a new "pit" for competitions. Unfortunately we weren't able to compete with it due to the Coronavirus.

Our 2022 goal was to raise enough money to be able to travel to competitions such as Houston TX for the world championships, this being about $45,000. We were able to meet this goal!

By setting a goal for our students of how much money they need to raise, the RUSH Regatta motivates them and helps possible sponsors know what they are doing for our team.

Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to know more about our Regatta!
