What We Do

Quick jump right to our EVENT GALLERY

Team RUSH teaches students not only the design process and how to build a robot, but many valuable life lessons as well. During the off-season students are trained in personality, leadership, machine, electrical, and sensors (to name a few). Our team believes in giving back to the community as each member is required to participate in team sponsored activities as well as fifteen hours of community service every year. We also present for Brandon and Clarkston schools and the companies that sponsor us. We mentor FLL teams in the area, organize and facilitate summer Lego robotics camps, RUSHing Girls to engineering camps, and participate in town parades. We also do a number of fundraisers which not only help to support our team, but get our name, what we stand for, and science and technology out into the community. In 2009, the highlight of our off-season initiatives was our RUSH Regatta! It was an entreprenureal and engineering experience that involved community - an activity that DID ALL!

During the build season, we build a robot but continue to "build leaders and a team". We do this through our continuous training - through presentation skills, scale drawing, even how to tie a tie. We have just six weeks to design and build a robot from the ground up to achieve the game challenge given by FIRST and to continue training. Our team is separated into sub-teams including: Chassis, Above Chassis, Mechanisms; aka "Seeker", Controls, Media and Management, and Community Impact Group.

What we do weekly during build season:

Each Monday night of the build season, we have our weekly "Design Review". Each subteam is to present via electronic presentation what we have accomplished in the past week and what our goals are of the next week. This allows each subteam to see how their "parts" are going to match up and where we may have any problems ahead of time. It is one of the most important pieces of our communication. Examples of what we do weekly can be seen through our 2011 interactive weekly newsletters.

In 2010, we had weekly videos, but this year, we chose NOT to do weekly videos due to the shortage of student hands. However, we now create interactive weekly newsletters (embedding media).
